December 5, 2013 -- Okay, so, there are these magic worms, or maybe they are the larval stage of some insect, but we'll call them worms for now. This mad scientist (played by Andrew Sensenig) experiments on these worms and feeds the worm juice to these kids, who become like telepathically linked to each other.
You think you know where this is going? You have no idea. So, I'll tell you a little about it, if you haven't been too grossed out by the thought of drinking worm juice. The mad scientist, not content with just the juice, starts feeding whole worms to people. The worms make these people very open to suggestion so that they will do whatever he tells them to. He tells them to give him all their money and they just do it. Is this like a great self-funding science project or what?
So this woman, Kris (Amy Seimetz of “You're Next”) has fallen under the spell of one of the mad scientist's worms and she gives him all her money. He also makes her memorize portions of the book “Walden” by Henry David Thoreau. After a while the mad scientists starts composing and playing strange music, which calls to the worms in the ground. It also calls to Kris, who returns to the sound of the worm music.
Then the mad scientist transfers worm stuff from Kris to a pig. He starts to experiment on the pigs. Kris has lost her job and her home in all of this, but she is free of the mad scientist at last. She finds herself strangely attracted to a man Jeff (Shane Carruth). Jeff is strangely attracted to Kris, like maybe they are both worm people and their worms are calling to each other.
Meanwhile, the mad scientist has started to make more worm music, sampling different sounds from nature and sounds he has created himself by scraping stuff together. The worm people are attracted to the worm music and compulsively buy every worm music CD they can find in a very strange music store that sells worm music. This plan backfires on the mad scientist. Kris and Jeff are able to trace the worm music back to the mad scientist. They also get their hands on the mad scientist's research papers and they contact the rest of the worm people.
So, then, all these worm people get together on the mad scientist's pig farm and they like commune with the wormy pigs. So, like who would make a film like this? That would be Shane Carruth, who wrote, directed and also stars in this film as Jeff. Like, it might be a good idea to check him for worms. This film rates a B.
