Laramie Movie Scope: Hidaway

Little imagination, but a lot of blood

March 6, 1995 -- ``Hideaway'' is a supernatural thriller about Hatch (Jeff Goldblum), who has a near-death experience and brings something evil back with him from beyond.

After coming back from the dead after a near-fatal accident Hatch finds himself psychically connected with a Satanic killer, Vassago, played by Jeremy Sisto. He can see through the killers eyes.

Goldblum becomes obsessed with the idea of catching Vassago and gets himself, his wife (Christine Lahti) and daughter (Alicia Silverstone) into a lot of trouble in the process. The plot contains elements of ``Flatliners,'' ``The Dead Zone'' and ``The Eyes of Laura Mars,'' but this movie isn't as good as any of those films.

It is nothing more than a mad slasher film with some special effects thrown into the mix. There's an awful lot of blood splashed around the sets, but not much imagination in the script. There is no character development and no one seems one bit wiser at the end of the film, despite all the supernatural revelations. This film rates a D.
