Biographical Information:
Janice Sexton (R):
I
am seeking re-election to the office of Clerk of the District
Court. I am completing my first term in office; however, I
have worked in the office for over 11 years. I was born and
raised in Laramie. I attended Laramie schools growing up;
graduating from Laramie Sr. High in 1976. I have worked at
Farm Bureau Insurance, Farmers Insurance, and Smith Beverages prior to
being hired by the District Court Clerk in 1995. I am a
member of Soroptimist International of Laramie, Albany County
Cow-belles, Unauthorized Practice of Law Committee, and
Hole-In-the-Wall Fly-Ball Club.
What changes would you
advocate in the process for calling jurors to make it easier to
establish jury pools?
Janice Sexton (R): I
have already made one major change that will not only give my office
larger jury pools, but in the event of numerous trials, the same people
should not be called over and over; instead of sending out 500
questionnaires, we have and will continue to send out 1000. This
is done once in the Fall and again in the Spring. Even
one time, jury duty can be inconvenient; this change will spread out
the responsibility.
What portion of the
expense of your office is borne by Albany County, what by the state?
Janice Sexton (R): There
is only one area in which the State contributes to the operation of my
office; we receive a small monthly incentive for our role in the Child
Support collections and disbursements. This is given directly to the
County Treasurer.
