Biographical Information:
Jackie R. Gonzales (D): I am a
life-long Wyoming resident, born and raised in Albany County. My
employment at the County Clerk’s Office began in January of
1980 as an Assistant County Clerk, appointed Chief Deputy in 1982 and
elected in 1990. I
am seeking my fifth term as your Albany County Clerk. I
have served as President of the Wyoming County Clerk’s
Association and served as a HAVA Advisory Committee Member for the
State of Wyoming in developing Wyoming’s State Plan. I am actively involved in
my church and various civic organizations. My
husband and I have three children and four granddaughters.
What is the solution to
low voter turnout for elections?
Jackie R. Gonzales (D): I wish I
could say I had the solution. I
believe the problem is nationwide - even worse in other states than in
Wyoming. I believe
we may have become apathetic as a people with the adage that
“my vote doesn’t count.” Every vote
counts! With the younger generation, sixteen to eighteen year olds able
to serve as election judges, I believe we can capture their interest
and get them more involved in the process.
How would you attract
more people to become trained election judges?
Jackie R. Gonzales (D): The role
of an election judge is vital and an integral part of the election
process.
I would like to implement an on-line training program
that could better accommodate the needs of an election judge to
recruit, train and certify an individual who is interested in serving
as an election judge.
I believe the traditional method of word-of-mouth has
been a successful tool in attracting judges and believe once
they’ve served, they are willing to serve again.
