How would you work with state and local agencies and governments to effect changes to the State’s open container law?

James F. “Jim” Pond (R):  Both the Sheriff’s Association and the Sheriff’s and Chiefs associations have  active legislative and current affairs committees that identify, coordinate with other associations and partners, and present issues to our Legislature for enhanced or changes in our current state law dealing with alcohol issues. I am currently serving on the Sheriff’s Association Legislative Committee.

In the event of a sustained emergency, such as a hazardous spill on the railroad or highways, does the Sheriff’s department have a clear plan?  How does it fit in with other first responders plans?

James F. “Jim” Pond (R):  The Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Albany County Emergency Management, along with other Emergency Responders from Albany County, has an All Hazards response plan.   Every two years, the Local Emergency Planning Committee and EMA updates our county wide response plans to maintain current and best information.   Should a sustained event occur, our plans and mutual aid agreements provide for regional resources to be dedicated to the event under the coordination of the incident commander.
